1. Overview

Ailingo ("we", "us", or "our") is an AI-powered language learning platform founded by Azamat Serik & Aikhanym Okassova, based in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our website and application at ailingo.net (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you register for Ailingo, we collect information through our authentication provider (Clerk), which may include your full name, email address, profile picture, and OAuth tokens from third-party sign-in providers (e.g., Google). We do not store your raw passwords — all credentials are managed securely by Clerk.

2.2 Learning Profile

To personalise your experience we ask you to specify your user type (e.g., student, professional), the language you are learning, and your current proficiency level. This data is stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and, where applicable, in your Clerk user profile metadata.

2.3 Usage & Progress Data

We track your activity within the Service, including lessons completed, vocabulary learned, daily study time (minutes per session), streak history, and XP (experience points). This data is used to power your personal dashboard and is stored locally in your browser. Future versions of the Service may sync this data to our servers to enable cross-device access.

2.4 Device & Log Data

We may automatically collect certain technical information when you access the Service: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URLs, pages visited, and timestamps. This data is used for security, debugging, and aggregate analytics only.

2.5 Communications

If you contact us by email or through any feedback form, we retain the content of your message and your contact details in order to respond to you and improve the Service.

3. How We Use Your Information

Provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
Personalise your learning path, difficulty level, and content recommendations.
Track and display your progress, streaks, and achievements.
Send transactional emails (e.g., account verification, password reset) via Clerk.
Analyse aggregate usage trends to improve the platform and AI models.
Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or unauthorised activity.
Comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties, and we do not use your data for targeted advertising.

4. Third-Party Services

We integrate with the following third-party providers to deliver the Service. Each provider operates under its own privacy policy:

Clerk (clerk.com)Authentication, session management, and user identity.

AI Model ProvidersGenerating language exercises, corrections, and conversation practice. Interaction data may be transmitted to these providers to generate responses. We do not share your name or email with AI providers.

Hosting & InfrastructureCloud infrastructure used to serve the application. Server logs may be retained for up to 90 days.

5. Children's Privacy

Ailingo is designed to be accessible to users of all ages, including children (age 7+) with appropriate parental support, and children with disabilities. For users under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in their jurisdiction), we require verifiable parental consent before an account is created. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without proper consent, please contact us at ceo@ailingo.net and we will promptly delete that data.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Learning progress data stored in your browser (localStorage) is retained on your device until you clear your browser data or explicitly delete your account. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law (e.g., financial records).

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure credential management through Clerk, and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Cookies

We use essential cookies required for authentication and session management (managed by Clerk). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can control cookie settings through your browser, but disabling essential cookies may prevent you from signing in.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
